Memorial stones made from ashes – an innovative way to commemorate a deceased pet

Published in 2025 summer Naisteleht 55+.

In Estonia, over a thousand pet deaths are recorded in pet registries every year. What to do when this difficult life event occurs is up to each person to decide, but when making choices, one must take into account legal requirements and find a long-term solution, both practical and emotional.

505 / 5,000 In Estonia, in densely populated areas, you can bury your pet on your property, but the issue of saving land, a limited resource, is becoming more relevant every year. People's environmental awareness has increased, which is why they want solutions that do not burden the land and the environment. Also, from the state's perspective, uncontrolled pet burial can cause problems. If traditional composting in the garden corner is heavily regulated today, it can be assumed that one day the requirements for burying pets in the home yard will also be reviewed.

Not everyone has a corner of their garden where they can bury their deceased pet. There are few pet cemeteries in Estonia, and the only pet cemetery in Harju County cannot accommodate pets. Many choose cremation, both out of lack of other options and because they want to keep their deceased pet close to them. But in addition to an urn, there is another option.

An innovative solution has come to the market in Estonia – memorial stones made from pet ashes.

Unlike traditional urns, memorial stones blend into everyday life, providing a beautiful and practical memorial in your home or garden. Memorial stones offer support during grief, carrying them with you in your handbag or pocket, providing a tangible connection to your departed loved one in moments of longing.

Memorial stones also help to make the send-off more beautiful. Stones can be shared between people, and placing them in a body of water or nature is much more practical than placing ashes.

Memorial stones are handcrafted by combining ash and natural bonding materials, resembling natural rocks, offering a long-lasting and worry-free solution to commemorate a departed loved one.
